The primary purpose of the Order of the Southern Cross is Confederate philanthropy.

When the Order was revived in 1979, its sole purpose was the upkeep and maintenance of Beauvoir, the last home of President Jefferson Davis, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Since that time the Order of the Southern Cross has expanded its mission to also cover any worthy Confederate historical or preservation project being done by an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) organization.

Such organizations may include Historical Societies, United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapters, Military Order of the Stars and Bars Chapters, Sons of Confederate Veterans Camps, Museums and Governmental entities.

Once a year, the Order dispenses monetary grants to charitable organizations that have applied for financial help in their mission of Confederate Heritage preservation. A grant application should be completed and returned by the appropriate deadline to the Grants Chairman.  Grants are reviewed and awarded at the annual meeting of the Order each fall.  If you have a project that you would like to request funding for, please go to the Grants link on this website for more information.
